Upper <br>The upper part of the shoe. The upper part excluding the sole.


Upcycling <br>The process of giving new added value to waste materials that would otherwise be thrown away, upgrading them into a new product and giving them new life.


Washing process
The finishing process involves washing the product to give the fabric a unique texture.


Antique style <br>Has a dignified look that has aged well.

Eel leather <br>Eel leather.


EVA sponge
Abbreviation for Ethylence-Vinyl-Acetate. A soft, elastic, lightweight, non-polluting material that is often used as a cushioning material for shoes.


One Piece of Leather <br>A single piece of connected leather with no seams. It has a neat and beautiful appearance and feels better on the feet because there are no seams, but it requires more production skill.


Insole <br>The layer inside the sole that is placed inside the shoe and actually comes into contact with the foot.


Indigo dyeing <br>While indigo dyeing uses natural dyes, this dyeing method uses indigo, a chemical dye that has a similar color to indigo.


In-heel <br>Shoes with a higher heel on the inside. From the outside of the shoe, it doesn't look like there is a heel, which has the effect of making your legs look longer.

A process in which heat and high pressure are applied to a surface to create patterns or letters.


Cup insole <br>A removable insole.


Calf Leather <br>Leather from calves less than 6 months old. With a fine texture and beautiful luster, it is considered a high-quality leather.


Camo pattern
Abbreviation of camouflage pattern. Camouflage pattern.


Glass Leather <br>After tanning, the leather is attached to a glass plate and dried, and then the surface is lightly scraped and finished with synthetic resin. Leather with a glossy, shiny surface. Patent leather, which is very similar, is leather that goes through the normal drying process and is finished with urethane resin without scraping the surface.

Kangaroo leather. It is light, soft, and durable. It is also used for baseball and soccer cleats. Our company uses edible kangaroo leather.

Canvas <br>A thick plain weave fabric made from cotton or linen. Such as sailcloth.

The epidermis, or surface part, of tanned leather.

Blisters
The skin is damaged and sore when shoes rub against the feet. It is most likely to occur around the heels and ankles. Possible causes include the wrong shoe size or the leather or soles being too hard when new.


Shoe sole
This term generally refers to insoles, midsoles, outsoles, etc.


Shoelaces
String that ties over the instep. Shoelace.


Cloudfoam insole <br>Cup insole with excellent breathability and impact resistance that can be washed with water.


Cracking processing <br>Leather that has had cracks artificially applied to the surface using chemicals or other means.


Crocodile Leather <br>Crocodile leather. It is highly rare and considered a high-quality leather.

Chrome tanning
Tanning using chemicals. It is characterized by being resistant to deformation and deterioration even after long-term use. In contrast, tanning using natural substances is called "vegetable tanning."


COOLMAXIM
A functional material with anti-odor, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, as well as excellent sweat absorption and diffusion properties. Made from 55% recycled materials. Mainly used for the lining.

Synthetic leather
Leather made to resemble real leather using synthetic fibers. It is resistant to water and dirt. Synthetic leather. Fake leather.

Cordovan <br>Leather from the buttocks of a horse. Only a very small amount can be obtained from one horse, making it a high-quality leather.

Comfort <br>In Japanese, it means "comfort." It often refers to the shape of the shoe fitting the foot and providing a comfortable fit.


CORDURA
A high-performance nylon material that is seven times stronger than nylon and is a registered trademark of INVISTA. It has excellent durability, water repellency, and light weight.

A high-performance nylon material made from recycled manufacturing waste, a registered trademark of INVISTA. It is durable, water-repellent, and lightweight.

Side Gore <br>A rubber cloth sewn onto the side of the shoe. It is also used as an abbreviation for side gore boots. It is highly elastic and easy to put on and take off.

Sashiko
It is a traditional material that has been passed down in Japan for over 500 years, and is made using a technique in which lines are drawn with thread. It has excellent durability, heat retention, and moisture absorption properties, and is used for firefighting uniforms, judo uniforms, kendo uniforms, etc.


Rust processing <br>Processing using special paint to make it look like real rust.


Clogs <br>A type of shoe that covers the foot from the toes to the instep, with the heel exposed. Originally, they were wooden shoes made by hollowing out wood, originating in Northern Europe.


Cellulose nanofiber (CNF)
A lightweight, strong fiber material made from plant-derived cellulose.

Grain <br>Irregular wrinkled patterns created on the surface of leather. In kanji it is written as "shibo". There is shrink leather, which is shrunk with chemicals, and embossed leather, which has a wrinkled appearance created by embossing.


Sheep leather <br>Sheep leather.


Shark leather <br>Shark leather.


Jacquard fabric (pheasant)
A fabric in which a pattern is directly woven in. Therefore, while a printed pattern would appear flat, a jacquard pattern would appear three-dimensional.


Shank <br>A core material made of metal or other material that is installed between the sole and the insole and serves to support the arch of the shoe.


Shoe Tongue <br>The tongue-like part underneath the wing to prevent the wing from directly touching the foot. Tongue. Tongue.


Shoelace <br>Shoelace.


Shrink leather <br>Leather that has had its surface shrunk using chemicals to give it a wrinkled appearance.


Vegetable tanning
Vegetable tanning is a process in which leather is tanned with tannins extracted from the bark of plants. This method preserves the original leather texture better than chrome tanning and is more susceptible to aging.


Artificial leather
Artificially produced leather.

Stitch-down method <br>A shoe manufacturing method in which the upper is pulled down on the outside and the outsole is sewn to the protruding part.


Straight tip <br>Shoes with a single horizontal stitch on the toe.


Snake pattern <br>Snake pattern.


Slip-ons/slip-ons <br>Shoes without laces or straps.

Product dyeing
This is a method of dyeing the finished product at the end. Because the fabric, leather, stitching, sole, etc. are all dyed with the same dye, uneven dyeing occurs depending on how easily each material absorbs the dye, resulting in a unique texture.

The measurement around the most protruding part of the foot from the base of the big toe to the base of the little toe.

The overall measurement of the foot from heel to toe.


Sole material <br>The material of the sole. Often refers to the material of the outsole.

Super water-repellent leather
The water repellent agent is permeated deep into the leather structure from the dyeing stage onwards, making this a high-performance leather that is resistant to scratches and damage and has a water repellent effect that lasts almost permanently.


Chukka boots <br>Boots with an ankle-high opening and two or three lace-up holes. These boots were worn in the 19th century for the horse-riding sport of polo, and are thought to derive their name from the word "chukker," which refers to one round of the sport.

The arch part of the human foot that does not touch the ground.


Strapping : The shoe manufacturing process in which the upper is fitted to the shape of a wooden last.

Insole <br>At our company, this refers to the material that is placed between the outsole and insole and stabilizes the foot. The insole is placed on top of this insole. The upper is hung on this insole and glued, and then the outsole is attached.


Tanning
This is a process that is applied to raw hides to turn them into materials for leather products. If left as raw hides, they will rot and harden, but this process prevents this and makes them usable for leather products.

Nume Leather <br>This is cowhide that has been tanned with tannins, and is not finished with any coloring or surface treatment. Because the surface is not treated, the original texture of the leather, including natural scratches and wrinkles, remains. It is densely packed with fibers, making it strong and long-lasting. Over time, the color will gradually darken due to exposure to sunlight, allowing you to enjoy the changes that occur over time, but because it is so easily changed, it is prone to staining when wet.

Eyelet
A round hole through which a string passes. Also, a ring-shaped metal fitting that is attached to the hole. Also called an eyelet.


Feather
A part inside the upper that allows you to tighten or loosen the instep by passing a lace through it. It is attached to both sides. Shoes with separate left and right wings are called "external wingtip" shoes, while shoes with integrated left and right wings are called "internal wingtip" shoes.


Buffing <br>The process of polishing a surface to make it smooth or fluffy.


Harako (fetus)
This fur material is made from the leather of calves that are either pre-natal or just after birth, with the fur still intact.


Vulcanization process <br>A manufacturing method in which rubber containing sulfur is placed in a special furnace and subjected to high temperature and pressure to harden the rubber and firmly bond the upper and outsole. The result is shoes that are less likely to lose their shape, have soles that are less likely to peel off, and are highly flexible. Invented by American inventor Charles Goodyear in 1839. It is said to be the "basic method of making sneakers."


Punching <br>Decorative holes made in leather. Medallion. Decorative holes. In addition to design, they can also be used to improve breathability.


Canvas
A thick plain weave fabric made from cotton or linen. Canvas.

Heel patch <br>A part that is attached to the side of the heel, directly at the back of the shoe, and often contains the brand name or logo.

This is a design in which the front placket is doubled to hide buttons, etc. It is often seen on coats and shirts, but we do not strictly use a double placket.

Bag sewing
To sew in a bag shape. When the opening is sewn in this way, the cut edges are rounded and not sharp, making it comfortable for the foot.


Pigskin <br>Pigskin. Pigskin. Large pores, good breathability.


Flat shoes <br>Shoes with almost no heel or curvature and a flat sole.


Pleating <br>A process that creates pleats or creases.


Pull Strap <br>A strap-like tab made of leather or fabric that is often attached to the opening of a shoe, especially at the heel. In addition to adding design, it also helps with putting on and taking off the shoe.


Fulltect Processing : An anti-viral processing technology developed by Shikibo Co., Ltd. It is effective in removing certain viruses and bacteria from textiles, and is used in many textile products such as masks, protective clothing, and uniforms.

Whole Cut <br>The upper leather is connected with a single stitch only in one place, mainly at the heel, and these shoes are made from a single piece of leather. Because there is only one stitch, the shoes have a neat appearance and feel good on the feet. However, this requires more production skill.

Mid-cut <br>Shoes whose height is between low-cut and high-cut. We refer to shoes whose height reaches around the ankle as mid-cut.
